The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) has opened its Eenhana satellite campus on Thursday, the 10 March 2022. The Eenhana satellite campus is currently operating from the Billy Mwaningange Rural Development Centre situated at Eembaxu.

The NUST Eenhana Campus was officially opened by Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila. During her officiating statement, the Prime Minister indicated that the establishment of NUST Eenhana campus is a commitment to capacitate the human resources needs in all parts of Namibia to enable the country can fully harness National development through research, business, and community engagement. Various dignitaries such as His Excellency Hifikepunye Pohamba, Former President of the Republic of Namibia and the Patron of the NUST Eenhana campus, Hon. Peter Katjavivi, Speaker of The National Assembly and NUST Chancellor, Hon. Itah Kandjii-Murangi Minister of High Education, Training and Innovation Technology, Hon. Erastus Uutoni Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Hon. Daniel Vladimir Kashikola Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, Ohangwena Governor hon.

Walde Ndevashiya and theNUST vice –Chancellor Dr Arold Naomab attended this notable event. His Excellency Hifikepunye Pohamba, Former President of the Republic of Namibia and the Patron of the NUST Eenhana campus, He encouraged the public to work in unity towards collecting funds for the completion of the NUST Eenhana campus so that the youth ca access to education. He emphasized that education is for all and no Namibian should be left out when it comes to education. In his welcoming statement, Ohangwena Governor indicated that the establishment of the NUST Eenhana campus will create a knowledge-based economy that is characterized by dependence on a highly-skilled, well educated, and technically-minded workforce that will make use of advancements in technology alongside intellectual capital to move away from material consumption and aim towards an economy built on knowledge and data. His Worship the Mayor of Eenhana, Cllr Omri-Onn Kavandje appreciated all Speakers and everyone contributed to the realization of the establishment of the NUST Eenhana Campus.

The name “Eenhana” means “Calves” in the Oshikwanyama language which is an indigenous language of many in the region. Legend has it that the name Eenhana originated from an event in which calves belonging to a livestock herder named Hakambaba lost his calves that were either by wild animals or succumbed to a disease in the area as a result hunters and travelers used to refer to the place as the “Valley of Calves of Hakambaba” hence the area used to be called Eenhana da Hakambaba (Hakambaba’s Calves).
